Cloud storage options
There are a couple of storage options available today. I looked into a few of these and tried to decide on backup storage for my sites.
For simplicity I went the following numbers, just to get an idea of the costs. I would upload 250GB, download to verify some backups and delete this every month.
- Upload 250GB/month
- Download 100GB/month
- Delete 250GB/month
A quick calculation gave me these numbers
- Amazon S3 - $60
- Azure - $60
- Google Cloud - $96
- Backblaze B2 - $12
- Digital Ocean Spaces - $60 (fixed fee $5/month for 250 GB and 1 TB downloads). Works with Laravel too.
I wanted something that was plug-n-play out of the box with Ottomatic, so I decided between S3, B2, and Spaces.
The major downside with Digital Ocean is that I would like a different provider then whats currently hosting my VPS. For that reason, I decided to for know go for S3, at least for now, but the price of B2 is very appealing.
